Crafton Hills College offers more than 50 majors in the liberal arts and sciences, vocations and technical studies. To make your academic journey easier, we’ve organized our degree and certificate programs into five Career and Academic Pathways (CAPS). All majors have been categorized based on areas of interest, similar career paths, common required skills, and comparable coursework requirements to help students identify which CAP aligns best with their personality, interests, and major/career goals. There’s also an Exploratory CAP for students who have yet to decide on a particular direction.

The pathway below represents an efficient and effective course taking sequence for this program. Individual circumstances might require some changes to this pathway. It is always recommended that you meet with an academic counselor to develop a personalized educational plan.

English 101: College Reading and Composition is a first-year course created to build on your existing knowledge and current practices related to reading and writing. In particular, this course focuses on developing your practices of analytical and active reading, conducting academic-level research, and entering into conversations with scholarly and creative thinkers. This course will empower you to make meaningful choices in your writing and develop flexible and personalized learning strategies, all while strengthening your voice as a scholar and building your confidence as a student.

Provides fundamental information regarding the history and philosophy of fire prevention, organization and operation of a fire prevention bureau, use of fire codes, identification and correction of fire hazards, and the relationships of fire prevention with built-in fire protection systems, fire investigation, and fire and life-safety education.

    Provides an introduction to fire protection; career opportunities in fire protection and related fields; philosophy and history of fire protection; fire loss analysis; organization and function of public and private fire protection services; fire departments as part of local government; laws and regulations affecting the fire service; fire service nomenclature; specific fire protection functions; basic fire chemistry and physics; introduction to fire protection systems; and introduction to fire strategy and tactics. This course is one of three courses required before entrance into the Fire Academy.

      Introduction and orientation to the field of respiratory care, professional organizations, regulatory bodies, and policies that govern respiratory treatment. Provides pre-entry students program information critical to the decision to enter the Registered Respiratory Therapist Program.

      HEALTH 104, 265, and 267 units are not UC transferable. HEALTH 102, 263, and 263H combined: maximum UC credit, one course. HEALTH 104 does not satisfy Lifelong Learning and Self-Development (CSUGE Area E) requirement.
      Focuses on the exploration of major health issues, individual behaviors and personal responsibility in the various dimensions of health. Topics include nutrition, exercise, weight control, mental health, stress management, violence, substance abuse, reproductive health, disease prevention, aging, healthcare, and environmental hazards and safety.

      Introduction to public health and basic the concepts and terminologies along with the history and accomplishments of public health officials and agencies. An overview of the functions of various public health professions and institutions. Topics include the epidemiology of infectious and chronic disease; prevention and control of diseases in the community including the analysis of the social determinants of health and strategies for eliminating disease, illness and health disparities among various populations; community organizing and health promotion programming; environmental health and safety; global health; and healthcare policy and management.

Focuses on the role of macro and micronutrients, hydration, energy pathways, body composition and ergogenic aids and their role on performance, physiological and physiological health.           A multi-cultural perspective on traditional and contemporary food choices. Considers customs associated with food in relation to religion, geography, health/medicine, human survival and symbolism. The impact of socio-economics, phycological considerations and implications, historical events, population movements, and geography are also discussed.

          Introduction to the interdisciplinary study of human movement. Explores the historical development, philosophy, and sub-fields of Kinesiology. Examines career opportunities and educational pathways in the areas of teaching, coaching, athletic training, exercise science, fitness, and health promotion professions.

          MATHEMATICS
          Math courses depend on the Placement Process and the considered Allied Health programs admissions requirements. MATH 102 is a Prerequisite/Corequisite for CHEM 101. Students are encouraged to see a Counselor for further transfer and/or program guidance.
          A college-level course in algebra for majors in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Study of polynomial, absolute value, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and radical functions; sequences, series, and the Binomial Theorem; graphing conic sections; inverse functions; solving systems of linear and non-linear equations, including the use of matrices and determinants; and the theory of equations. MATH 102 and MATH 160, maximum UC credit one course.

            The use of probability techniques, hypothesis testing, and predictive techniques to facilitate decision making. Topics include descriptive statistics; probability and sampling distributions; statistical inference; correlation and linear regression; analysis of variance; chi squared and t-tests; effect size; confidence intervals; and application of technology for statistical analysis including the interpretation of the relevance of the statistical findings, especially for practical applications using data from disciplines such as the social sciences, health care and education. While the MATH 110 class approaches these topics with a firmer grounding in the principles of mathematics, this PSYCH 120 does cover the mathematical basis of statistics, probability theory and estimation, but focuses on the interpretation and application, uses and misuses, and the analysis and criticism of statistical arguments in public discourse.

Topics include: a review of computational skills developed in intermediate algebra, factoring, operations on rational and radical expressions, absolute value equations and inequalities, functions including composition and inverses, and an in-depth focus on quadratic functions. This course is appropriate for students who are confident in their graphing and beginning algebra skills. Graded on a Pass/No Pass basis only. Non-degree applicable

                A review of the core prerequisite skills, competencies, and concepts needed in statistics. Intended for students who are concurrently enrolled in MATH 110, Introduction to Probability and Statistics. Topics include concepts from arithmetic, prealgebra, elementary and intermediate algebra, and descriptive statistics that are needed to understand the basics of college-level statistics. Concepts are taught through the context of descriptive data analysis. Additional emphasis is placed on solving and graphing linear equations and modeling with linear functions. Graded on a Pass/No Pass basis only.. Non-degree applicable.

                Lecture and laboratory course emphasizing the basic structural, functional, and developmental stages of the human body. Introductory survey of the human body in one semester. Essentials of structure and function in each of the eleven body systems covered.

                Introduction to biology with an emphasis on scientific analysis and problem solving. Offers a broad understanding of the unity and diversity of the living world from cellular and molecular levels to anatomy, physiology, evolution, and ecology. This course is designed for non-science majors seeking general education credit and for some Environmental Science and Multiple Sciences majors.

                An introduction to career planning. Exploration of the sociological, physiological, and psychological needs in identifying and planning a major and career plan. Focus on the career planning process and the development of a career portfolio that demonstrates knowledge of career decision making, planning and job search strategies.

                  The study and application of relevant research to attain mental and emotional well-being, in order to live a fulfilling life.
